Biographical Notes in German: Dänischer Autor, bedeutender Vertreter des Naturalismus. Nach Abschluss des Ingenieurstudiums Lehrer an einer Volksschule, ab 1881 freier Schriftsteller, 1917 Nobelpreis für Literatur. Der Verlust seines Gehörs nach 1927 isolierte ihn bis zu seinem Tode fast vollständig.
