Werner Brandes was born on July 10, 1889 in Braunschweig. He was a German Director of Photography, known for Abschiedswalzer (1934), Das Indische Grabmal: Die Sendung des Yoghi (1921), Emil und die Detektive (1931), Werner Brandes's first movie on record is from 1912. Werner Brandes died on September 30, 1968 in Los Angeles County, California, USA. His last motion picture on file dates from 1943.
Biographical Notes in German: Deutscher Kameramann, tätig seit circa 1912, 1919 kam er zu Joe May, für welchen er unter anderem die Filme "Die Herrin der Welt" und "Das Indische Grabmal" photographierte. In den Zwanziger Jahren Zusammenarbeit u.a. mit den Regisseuren E.A. Dupont, Ludwig Berger und Wilhelm Thiele, später in den Dreissiger Jahren Gerhard Lamprecht, Reinhold Schünzel und Géza von Bolvàry. 1939 Emigration in die Schweiz.
Zu seinen bekanntesten Filmen zählen die Kästner-Verfilmung aus dem Jahre 1931 "Emil und die Detektive" sowie die stimmungsvolle Photographie in Géza von Bolvàry's "Schloss in Flandern". Andere Quellen nennen 1957 sein Todesjahr.
