Hans Abich was born on August 4, 1918 in Steinoelsa, Oberlausitz. He was a German Producer, known for Der gläserne Turm (1957), Wir Wunderkinder (1958), Lampenfieber (1959), Hans Abich's first movie on record is from 1948. Hans Abich died on July 17, 2003 in Freiburg i.B.. His last motion picture on file dates from 1985.
Biographical Notes in German: Innovativer Produzent des deutschen Nachkriegsfilms, der vor allem mit seinen
Produktionen für Harald Braun und Rolf Thiele aus der Masse des gängigen
Unterhaltungsfilms herausragten. Später wurde Abich Intendant von Radio
Bremen und kam 1973 als ARD-Programmdirektor nach München.
In einem Nachruf würdigte ARD-Programmdirektor Günter Struve: "Programmlich
leben wir noch heute von Abich: Er hat für die Einführung der "Tagesthemen"
gesorgt, und von ihm stammt die bis heute gültige Programmstruktur des
Ersten."

Für seine Verdienste hatte Abich u.A. die Ehrenmedaille der Stadt Göttingen
erhalten. Des weiteren wurde er geehrt mit
- dem Deutschen Filmband in Gold,
- dem Robert-Geisendörfer-Preis für sein Lebenswerk,
- demBundesverdienstkreuz erster Klasse und
- der "Besondere Ehrung" des Adolf-Grimme-Preises für "seine Verdienste um
die Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Rundfunkanstalten Deutschlands und sein Eintreten
für die Unabhängigkeit des öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunks".
