Sergio Corbucci was born on December 6, 1927 in Roma, Italy. "Der 1927 in Rom geborene Sergio Corbucci arbeitete zunächst als Filmkritiker, bevor er ins Praktische wechselte und das Regiehandwerk als Assistent erlernte. In den frühen 50er-Jahren drehte er seine ersten Spielfilme im Genre des Melodramas, spezialisierte sich dann auf Historiengemälde und "Sandalen"-Filme wie "Der Sohn des Spartacus" oder
"Romulus und Remus". Filmgeschichte schrieb er als einer der Väter des Italo-Westerns. Eines der Hauptwerke in diesem Genre war sein konsequent und radikal inszenierter Western "Leichen pflastern seinen Weg" (1968) mit Klaus Kinski. Als die Blütezeit des Spaghetti-Westerns zu Ende ging, wandte sich der agile Corbucci einer neuen Kinogattung zu. Action-Krimis, oft witzig überdreht, wurden seine Spezialität in den 70er- und 80er-Jahren. Zu dieser ebenfalls erfolgreichen Serie zählen "Bluff" (1975) mit Adriano Celentano oder "Zwei Asse trumpfen auf" (1981) mit dem "schlagfertigen" Duo Bud Spencer und Terence Hill. Einer seiner letzten Filme war die turbulente Komödie "Wie du mir, so ich dir" (1984) mit Komiker-Star Paolo Villaggio. Seinen Abschied gab er 1990 mit dem Politthriller "Gefährliche Begegnung". Im gleichen Jahr - am 31. Dezember - erlag Corbucci im Alter von 67 Jahren einem Herzinfarkt." (Walter Greifenstein, BR-Presse)
