Goffredo Lombardo was born on May 15, 1920 in Napoli. He was an Italian Producer, known for Rocco e i suoi fratelli (1960), Il Gattopardo (1963), Banditi a Orgosolo (1961), Goffredo Lombardo's first movie on record is from 1951. Goffredo Lombardo died on February 5, 2005 in Roma. His last motion picture on file dates from 2010.
Biographical Notes in German: Eminenter Produzent des italienischen Film, Sohn des Produzenten Gustavo Lombardo und der Schauspielerin Leda Gys. Übernahm die von seinem Vater gegruendete Produktionsfirma Titanus, die er mit Erfolgsproduktionen wie den Melodramen von Raffaello Matarazzo oder populären Publikumsfilmen wie "Pane, Amore..." bald zu einer der wichtigsten Institutionen des italiensichen Nachkriegskinos machte. Lombardo hatte auch einen wesentlichen Einfluss in der Foerderung des italienischen Autorenkinos der Sechziger Jahre, in dem er die Filme eines Ermanno Olmi ("I Fidanzat") oder Valerio Zurlini produzierte. Fuer Visconti produzierte Lombardo den seinerzeit von der Zensur stark angefeindeten Film "Rocco e i suoi fratelli" und seinen wohl schönsten Film "Il Gattopardo". Trotz des relativen Erfolgs dieses Films stürzten die enormen Produktionskosten des "Gattopardo" die Titanus beinahe in den Bankrott, und Lombardo war gezwungen, mit seinem persönlichen Vermoegen die Schulden der Firma zu decken.
Der Regisseur Giuseppe Tornatore schuf mit seinem Film "L'ultimo Gattopardo" eine eindrückliche Hommage an den 2005 verstorbenen Gransignore des italienischen Kinos. (lhg 2011)
