Peter Lorre was born under the given name Laszlo Löwenstein on June 26, 1904 in Rosenburg, Ungarn. He was a German Herec, known for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), Casablanca (1942), Peter Lorre's first movie on record is from 1929. Peter Lorre died on March 23, 1964 in Hollywood, California, USA. His last motion picture on file dates from 1964.
Zivotopisné poznámky (v němčině): Eigentlich Laszlo Löwenstein, in Rosenburg, in der damaligen k.u.k. Provinz, geboren, aufgewachsen in Braila und Wien, Künstlername Peter Lorre. Erste Engagements in Breslau, Zürich und Wien, durch Bertolt Brecht an das Theater am Schiffbauerdamm nach Berlin.
Sein Durchbruch im Kino erfolgte mit Fritz Lang's "M", wo er den gesuchten Mörder spielte. Im Exil in USA u.a. die beliebte Serienfigur "Mr. Moto" in mehreren Filmen und zahlreiche zweite Rollen als zwielichter Charakter in einigen der besten Filmen der amerikanischen Série Noire. Sein Regieversuch in "Der Verlorene" von 1951 brachte ihm zwar viele positive Kritiken, blieb aber finanziell ein Desaster.
