Ernst Lubitsch was born on January 29, 1892 in Berlin. He was a German Director, Author, Actor, Producer, known for Venezianische Nächte (1914), Meyer auf der Alm (Titel not confirmed) (1913), Bedingung: Kein Anhang (1914), Ernst Lubitsch's first movie on record is from 1913. Ernst Lubitsch died on November 30, 1947 in Hollywood, California, USA. His last motion picture on file dates from 2010.
Biographical Notes in German: Nach ersten grossen Filmerfolgen in Deutschland ging der gebürtige Berliner 1923 nach Hollywood und konnte dort seinen Erfolg nicht nur im amerikanischen Stummfilm, sondern später auch im Tonfilm fortsetzen. Als sein Markenzeichen galt die dicke Zigarre, der "Lubitsch-Touch" ging in die Filmgeschichte ein, jenes gekonnte Andeuten von Erotik und Frivolität, das seine Komödien auszeichnete.
Die Nazis entzogen ihm die deutsche Staatsbürgerschaft, und Lubitsch wurde 1935 Amerikaner. Am 30. Novemre 1947 erlag er seinem zweiten Herzanfall - acht Monate zuvor war er mit dem Ehren-Oscar ausgezeichnet worden.
