Piscator rĂ€umt in seinen Experimenten mit dem politischen Theater neben dem Film auch der Musik einen besonderen Rang ein. Meisel komponiert die Musik zu den von Piscator und Felix Gasbarra entwickelten StĂŒcken Revue Roter Rummel und Trotz AIledem, bei denen er eine breite Palette musikalischer Stile erproben kann. Ein ironisierendes Operettenduett als Alltagsstreit eines kommunistischen Ehepaares gehört ebenso zu Meisels Repertoire wie Jazz-Rhythmen oder die karikaturistische Zersetzung vaterlĂ€ndischer KlĂ€nge. Mitte der Zwanziger Jahre vertieft Meisel seine BeschĂ€ftigung mit einer ĂŒber die bloße Illustrierung hinausgehenden Filmmusik. Aus den Kontakten mit der Kommunistischen Internationalen Arbeiterhilfe ergibt sich der Auftrag, fĂŒr deren Filmfirma die Begleitmusik zur deutschen AuffĂŒhrung von Eisensteins Panzerkreuzer Potemkin zu komponieren.
