Roger Moore was born on October 14, 1927 in Stockwell, London. He was an English Actor, known for North Sea Hijack (1980), The Sea Wolves (1979), A View to a Kill (1985), Roger Moore's first movie on record is from 1945. He was married to Doorn van Steyn (1946-1953), Dorothy Squires (1953-1968), Luisa Mattioli (1969-1966) and Kristina Tholstrup (2002-2017). Roger Moore died on May 23, 2017 in Crans-Montana, VS, Switzerland. His last motion picture on file dates from 2010.
Biographical Notes in German: 1927 als Sohn eines Polizisten in London geboren, gab Roger Moore 1945 nach dem Besuch der 'Royal Academy of Dramatic Art' sein Bühnendebüt, hatte dann aber für drei Jahre Militärdienst zu absolvieren. Es ging mit dem Schauspieler Moore nicht allzu rasch vorwärts, er arbeitete in der Werbung, als Dressman und übernahm jede Rolle, die er bekommen konnte. Auf der Leinwand fiel er zum ersten Mal in Richard Brooks' Drama 'Damals in Paris' (1954) auf. Der blendend aussehende Moore gewann Popularität durch einige TV-Serien ('Ivanhoe', 'The Alaskans'), weltweit zum (schwerreichen) Star wurde er durch den Serienhit 'The Saint' als der smarte Amateurdetektiv Simon Templar (1967/68). Die Arbeit an 'The Saint' (dt. Titel 'Simon Templar') verhinderte aber auch, dass er der erste James Bond der Kinogeschichte wurde.

Die Rolle fiel an seinen schottischen Kollegen Sean Connery. Moore verschaffte sich weiterhin Fans und Geld durch die komödiantische Krimiserie 'Die Zwei' als der köstlich versnobte Lord Sinclair an der Seite des uramerikanischen Millionärs Tony Curtis. 1973 aber war endgültig seine Stunde gekommen. Sean Connery hatte die Rolle des 007 satt, Moore wurde für sieben Filme sein Nachfolger und prägte eine ganz andere Art Bond: weniger athletisch, safür (selbst-) ironischer und smarter und als Frauenheld nicht ganz so aggressiv. Von seinem Bond-Debüt an mit 'Leben und sterben lassen' bekämpfte er u. a. Christopher Lee ('Der Mann mit dem goldenen Colt'), Curd Jürgens ('Der Spion, der mich liebte'), Louis Jourdan ('Octopussy') oder zuletzt Christopher Walken in 'James Bond 007 - Im Angesicht des Todes'. Zu seinen Gespielinnen gehörten Jane Seymour, Britt Eklund, Barbara Bach oder Carole Bouquet. Nach seinem Abschied aus dem anstrengenden Dienst seiner Majestät ließ es Roger Moore, der Luxus und Muße von der Davidoff bis zum Rolls Royce über alles liebt, langsamer angehen. Die Rollen wurden seltener.

Zuletzt war er bei uns als Lord Dobbs in dem Jean-Claude-van-Damme-Debüt 'The Quest - Die Herausforderung' (1995) zu sehen. Aus seinem Müßiggang mit Tennisspiel und Skifahren im schweizerischen Gstaad holte ihn die Verpflichtung als Sonderbeauftragter der Filmkunst für UNICEF, das Kinderhilfswerk der Vereinten Nationen. Sein Erfolg als Spenden-Zugpferd der Organisation drückte sich in einer Zwischenbilanz Anfang 1997 aus, als man rund 3,8 Mio. DM auf dem Sammelkonto verbuchen konnte. Auch in anderen Bereichen außerhalb der Filmstudios wurde Moore aktiv. So nahm er 1993 an einer Veranstaltung gegen Fremdenhass und Rassismus im Hamburger Thalia Theater teil. Im März 1999 wurde Roger Moore von der britischen Königin für seine Verdienste um die Wohltätigkeit zum 'Commander of the Order of the British Empire' ernannt. (Walter Greifenstein, BR-Presse)
