Geboren 28.2.1925 in Fresno, Kalifornien. Regisseur, Autor, Produzent, Darsteller. Militärdienst bei den Marines. Studium an der University of Southern California. Erste Drehbücher für TV-Western, 1961 war THE DEADLY COMPANIONS sein erster Kinowestern. Viele seiner Filme kamen erst nach Schnittauflagen in die Kinos und werden posthum in der intendierten Fassung veröffentlicht. Sam Peckinpah starb am 28.12.1984 an Herzversagen.
