Synopsis in German
Sizilien zur Zeit der Befreiung durch Garibaldi. Ein Aufstand in Palermo ist von den Bourbonen niedergeschlagen worden. Aber mit Hilfe eines Geistlichen können die Rebellen den Hirten Carmine nach Genua schicken, wo er Garibaldi versichern soll, daß sie hinter ihm stehen. Während seine Braut Gesuzza in Sizilien zurückbleibt, durchquert Carmine Italien, schifft sich mit Garibaldi nach Sizilien ein und kämpft mit ihm in der blutigen Schlacht bei Calatafimi, die den Kampf gegen die Bourbonen entscheidet.
