Reviews in German: A film very reminiscent of a big budget 'Malboto' commercial, whichist ì
brimming over with soap-opera clichés and characters so thin that Walt Disney ì
might have rejected them as silly. The round-up scenes are magnificent and ì
provide the only component of the film that isn't embarassing. What an ì
immense pity that this film could not reproduce the creative integrity that ì
is present in all of Paterson's writings...

A.B. ('Banjo') Paterson's poem is known to every Australian, who made of this ì
their highest-grossing local mvie. Poms and others are warned that it's fine ì
as an adolescent adventure, and harmless enough. Young Jim (Tom Burlinson) ì
sees his father killed while hunting wild mountain horses; he's outlawed and ì
has to prove his manhood before assuming his heritage. With Jack Thompson as ì
legendary cattleman, Chris Haywood, Sigrid Thornton and Kirk Douglas in a ì
double role - mountain man and rancher - at least one of which is de trop.
