Synopsis in German
Spanien im 17. Jahrhundert: Herzog Don Gomez, der mit seiner Tochter Carmencita vor der Pest flieht, wird im Auftrag seines machtgierigen Rivalen Don Luis umgebracht. Carmencita befindet sich in Luis' Gewalt.
Sie soll seinen derzeit abwesenden Sohn Diego heiraten. Die Pest greift weiter um sich und bedroht auch die Burg des Tyrannen. Er verwehrt dem schutzsuchenden Volk den Zutritt. Als Carmencita sich darüber empört, lässt Luis Frauen in seine Burg - nicht aber um ihnen zu helfen, sondern als Amüsement für sich und seine Ritter. Mit seinem Sohn Diego taucht gleichzeitig ein geheimnisvoller Kavalier in schwarzer Maske auf, der Carmencita vor den zudringlichen Rittern schützt und so ihr Herz erobert. Mit dem Erscheinen dieses Rächers der Unterdrückten wendet sich das Blatt. In einem Degenzweikampf bei einem Maskenball auf der Burg hat die letzte Stunde des Tyrannen geschlagen. Dem Unbekannten aber winkt die Liebe der schönen Gefangenen als Lohn.... (rbb Presse)
