Reviews in German: Relativ konventionell gestaltete Geschichte eines amerikanischen Leutnants, der seine japanische Krankenpflegerin heiratete und mit ihr nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg auf die elterliche Farm nach Kalifornien zurückkehrte. Vidors Pladoyer gegen die Vorurteile beider Seiten wirkt heute wie ein Appell an den gesunden Menschenverstand, aber die filmische Umsetzung der Geschichte bleibt am Oberflächlichen haften.
Remarks and general Information in German: Der Film zählt zu den Raritäten in King Vidors Schaffen, denn nur wenigen Kopien haben überlebt: die 2001 in Locarno gezeigte 16mm war bestimmt weder in Bezug auf Bildqualität noch Ton auf der Höhe ihrer Zeit.
