Dadurch wirkt die Odyssee durch die erotischen Obsessionen eines Ehepaars seltsam emotionslos, obwohl die Story nach Arthur Schnitzlers "Traumnovelle" als Alptraum konzipiert ist. Dennoch bleibt unverkennbar, dass hier ein Meister hinter der Kamera stand, der unerbittlich die Psyche seiner Protagonisten entblößt.
