Synopsis in German
Christian Kempenich (Dieter Borsche), Stadtbibliothekar im idyllischen Moselstädtchen Weinbach, ist ein Ausbund an Tugend. Das ändert sich scheinbar, als er ohne seine Frau Elisabeth (Marianne Koch) zu einer Taufe nach Düsseldorf fährt. Anschließend gerät er an der Seite eines Freundes ins Nachtleben und erwacht nach einem feuchtfröhlichen Kneipenbummel am nächsten Morgen an der Seite einer ihm unbekannten Frau (Edith Hancke). Verkatert und verwirrt schleicht er sich davon, doch die peinliche Angelegenheit hat ein Nachspiel, denn das Hotel Bijou erstattet Anzeige wegen Wäschediebstahls. Ein Meldezettel mit dem Eintrag „Christian Kempenich und Frau" lässt keinen Zweifel an seiner Missetat. Dank Christians schwatzhafter Schwester Selma (Fita Benkhoff) tratscht bald der ganze Ort über den Fehltritt des Bibliothekars. Der besorgte Bürgermeister (Adolf Dell) suspendiert den moralisch untragbaren Beamten vom Dienst, der Polizeikommissar (Gustav Knuth) ordnet gar eine Hausdurchsuchung an. Um seine eifersüchtige Frau zu besänftigen, bittet Christian seinen Freund Enrico Falotti (Hans Söhnker) um Hilfe. Falotti soll erklären, er sei im Hotel Bijou unter Christians Namen abgestiegen. Doch das ist keine gute Idee, denn Falotti war an besagtem Abend in einem Hotel in Koblenz - und zwar mit Christians Frau Elisabeth. (ARD Presse)
