Reviews in German: "«Brutal» habe er in seinem jüngsten Film sein wollen, sagt Arnaud Desplechin, brutal tragisch und brutal komisch. Beides ist dem 1960 geborenen französischen Regisseur in dieser schönen Tragikomödie ums Familienleben gelungen. Man darf sich vor diesen Figuren, die da beständig am Rande des Nervenzusammenbruchs zu hausen scheinen, durchaus an Almodóvar und Allen erinnert fühlen. Zwei Geschichten werden parallel erzählt. Nichts zu lachen gibt diejenige Noras (Emmanuelle Devos), die im Begriff steht, sich zum dritten Mal zu verheiraten, und unerwartet ihren Vater verliert. Fürs Komische, das bald als Farce, bald als Burleske erscheint, sorgt Ismaël (Mathieu Amalric), ihr zweiter Ex-Ehemann, der zu Beginn wieder einmal in die Psychiatrie eingeliefert wird." (NZZ, che.)
