Synopsis in German
Hector Brown, der von den Einwohnern von Norwalk den Spitznahmen "Humdrum" erhalten hat, hat sich mit Alicia Boothe verlobt. Die beiden träumen von einem Haus und einem glücklichen Familienleben im Grünen mit vielen Kindern. Aber sein Schwager, Ed Danforth, hat all sein Geld bei Spekulationen verspielt, und so muss Hector auch die Danforth Familie ernähren. Der Bankdirektor und Spekulant Carlos Tanner stiftet Ed an, die eigene Bank, bei welcher Hector als Kassier beschäftigt ist, auszurauben: Die nun bankrotte Bank muss geschlossen werden und Hector verliert seinen Job. Er löst die Verlobung mit Alicia, zieht nach San Francisco und findet dort einen Job als Nachtportier. Mittlerweile ist auch Carlos Tanner in der Stadt und plant einen weiteren Streich. Alicia hat ein kleines Vermögen geerbt und fährt Hector nach San Francisco nach, um ihn zu suchen. Da trifft sie Tanner, der verspricht, ihr Geld gewinnbringend anzulegen. Ed Danforth, von Tanner aufs Kreuz gelegt, erzählt Hector den Set-up von Tanner und stellt sich dann der Polizei. Carlos Tanner erfährt davon in der Zeitung und flieht mit seiner Kumpanin auf einem Schiff. Aber Hector hat sich ihm auf die Fersen geheftet, stellt ihn in seiner Kabine und übergibt das Gaunerpärchen der Polizei. Das gestohlene Geld bringt er der Bank in Norwalk zurück, und am Ende steht dem Glück der beiden Liebenden nichts mehr im Wege.
