Polly has two rivals for her love, Tom and Bert. Both court her, but when Tom wins her hand, Bert becomes enraged with jealousy. One night, a storm builds while Polly and Tom are out at sea. Bert, drunk and set on revenge, plans to douse the lighthouse beacon. He and old Nat Berry, the lighthouse keeper and Polly’s father, scuffle, but Nat manages to keep the lamp shining, and Bert wanders off to drown in the surf. The next morning, Polly and Tom are safe and sound, while Bert’s body is washed up on the rocks. – Steven Higgins, Giornate del Cinema Muto Pordenone 2006
