Synopsis in German
Die als Stationsärztin an einem Kinderkrankenhaus tätige Dr. Helga Wagner (Hertha Feiler) sorgt sich aufopferungsvoll um das Wohl ihrer kleinen Patienten und gönnt sich selbst keine Pause. Ihr Freund, der Architekt Richard Kühn (Willy Fritsch), will Helga wenigstens am Wochenende auf andere Gedanken bringen und lädt sie zu einem Ausflug in die österreichischen Alpen ein. Helga hofft auf ein paar ruhige Tage in dem etwas abgeschieden gelegenen Ferienhaus. Als Richard die idyllische Umgebung nutzt, um ihr einen Heiratsantrag zu machen, ist sie aufgebracht. Sie liebt „Rick", aber ein Leben als Hausfrau kommt für sie nicht infrage. Kurzentschlossen will sie wieder abreisen, verirrt sich aber in den Bergen, wo sie den charmanten Michael Lechner (Gerhard Riedmann) trifft. Er führt sie erst ins Dorf, als der letzte Bus schon abgefahren ist. Michael verliebt sich in Helga und auch sie findet den jungen Naturburschen attraktiv. Sie beschließt zu bleiben und erlebt gleich lautstark die Dauerfehde zwischen der resoluten Krämerin Emerentia Huber (Annie Rosar) und dem knorrigen Bürgermeister Alois Lechner (Hans Moser). Am nächsten Tag besucht Helga Michael und seine Tochter Toni (Sabine Eggerth) in ihrer Almhütte und entdeckt, dass er ein talentierter Maler ist.
Ein Telegramm ruft Helga kurzfristig in die Klinik zurück. Sie kehrt zum großen Dorffest rund um das „Elisabethenspiel" zurück, begleitet von dem Waisenmädchen Moni (Ingrid Simon), um das sie sich sorgt. Schweren Herzens muss sich Helga entscheiden zwischen dem unbekümmerten Michael und Richard, der für sie heimlich eine Berghütte zum Kinder-Sanatorium ausbauen ließ.... (ARD Presse)
