Reviews in German: Nur etwas mehr als die Hälfte dieses kontroversen Melodrams hat überlebt, was eine kritische Betrachtung zum Film erschwert. Ohne Zweifel liegt Holubars Stärke im Inszenieren von dramatischen Aktionsszenen, etwa in den Anfangsszenen des Pogroms in St. Petersburg oder der Mobilisierung in den kommunistischen Parteiversammlungen. Hier brilliert auch Dorothy Phillips als Sonia (in der niederländischen Kopie Dorothee genannt). Leider geht viel von der Paralellmontage Holubars verloren, weil hier offensichtlich wichtige Teile des Films fehlen, so dass war der Handlungsstrom nach wie vor erkennbar ist, nicht aber die dramaturgische Struktur des Films gewahrt ist. Ob dies eventuell bereits in der ursprünglichen niederländischen Verleihkopie der Filma Amsterdam der Fall war, lässt sich wohl nicht mehr feststellen. (lhg 2017)
