Synopsis in German
Die Geschichte des Luzerner Revolutionärs Jakob R. Steiger, der 1845 von reaktionären Kreisen zum Tod am Galgen verurteilt wurde, sich aber ins liberale Zürich retten konnte. Die folgenden Jahre sind geprägt von Unruhen, die im Sonderbundskrieg gipfeln. Schnell unterliegen die katholischen Stände, und 1848 wird Steiger zum ersten Nationalratspräsidenten der modernen Schweiz gewählt.
