England, Zweiter Weltkrieg: Der amerikanische Bomber B-17, getauft auf den Namen "Memphis Belle", steht kurz vor seinem 25. Feindflug nach Deutschland. Ist dieser absolviert, kann die Besatzung nach Amerika zurückkehren. Das Ziel ist die stark verteidigte Industriestadt Bremen. Anfänglich läuft alles gut unter dem Kommando des erfahrenen Piloten Dearborn. Doch dann misslingt der erste Angriff, die deutschen Jagdflugzeuge greifen an, das Leitwerk wird getroffen....
