Synopsis in German
Historisches Drama um Rache und Eifersucht im Hause Borgia: Cesare Borgia trachtet Alfonso von Aragon, dem Geliebten seiner von ihm selbst begehrten Schwester Lucrezia, nach dem Leben. Cesares hasserfüllter Leidenschaft fallen zunächst der eigene Bruder sowie das einfache Mädchen Naomi zum Opfer, bevor er schliesslich auch Alfonso ermorden lässt. Selbst ein Bannfluch des Papstes kann ihn nicht stoppen, und er verfolgt Lucrezia bis zur Burg der Sforzas. Dort kommt es zum Zweikampf mit Giovanni Sforza, in dessen Verlauf Cesare und sein Gegner tödlich verwundet werden. (www.filmportal.de)

Remarks and general Information in German: Die 2011 vom Deutschen Bundesarchiv - Filmarchiv restaurierte Fassung ist um etwa 280 meter kürzer als die Zensurfassung von 1922. Unter anderen exstiert auch eine englische Fassung des Films in der Länge von circa 130 Minuten, in welcher allerdings Besetzung teilweise ganz anders genannt wird. So etwa Paul Wegener als Alfonso d'Aragon (an Stelle von Alfons Fryland), Llyla Haid statt Liane Haid als Lucrezia, Gina Boscarino statt Käte Oswald als Naomi und Sabina Maresco statt Anita Berber als Gräfin Orsini.
