«Der Überraschungshit von 1994 hält die perfekte Balance zwischen Gefühlsduselei und zynischer Reflexion über die Liebe. Er verhalf dem uramerikanischen Genre Screwball-Comedy zu einer europäischen Renaissance. Trotz ihrer nonchalanten Egozentrik sind die Hauptfiguren derart komisch, dass sie unsere volle Sympathie haben. Heiratsmuffel Hugh Grant stieg mit diesem Film zum Spitzenstar auf.
